Profile

1986年埼玉県生まれ。2014年東京藝術大学美術研究科修士課程漆芸専攻修了。現在、日本工芸会準会員、東京藝術大学漆芸研究室教育研究助手。
2025年「新井 寛生 漆芸展 －光の階調－」（日本橋高島屋 / 東京）にて個展開催。2014年 杜賞・漆工奨励賞、2022年第39回日本伝統漆芸展新人賞、第62回東日本伝統工芸展東京都知事賞(最高賞)、第69回日本伝統工芸展新人賞、2023年国際漆展・石川2023大賞など受賞多数。Museum für Lackkunst（ドイツ）に作品収蔵。

Born in Saitama in 1986. Completed the Master’s Program in Urushi (Lacquer Art) at Tokyo University of the Arts in 2014. Currently an Associate Member of the Japan Kōgei Association and a Research Assistant in the Urushi Laboratory at Tokyo University of the Arts. Solo exhibition: 2025 “Arai Kansei solo exhibition -gradation of light” Nihombashi Takashimaya (Tokyo). Statement

漆を扱い、制作する感覚は生きものを扱っているような感覚です。樹液である漆は取れた場所や時期、精製方法によって性格が変わるので、漆ごとの性質を見極め制作しています。
半ばとり憑かれたように、美しい造形を目指して日々制作をしていますが、何度も何度も砥石で漆下地を研ぎつけることで、洗練された美しい曲面を作ることができます。思い描く造形を表現する上で、私のそうした性格は漆の性質と相性が良く、研いでは下地をつけ乾かしを繰り返し、少しずつ工程を進め美しい曲面造形の精度を上げてゆく作業は、苦労を伴いますがそれ以上に完成した時のよろこびが勝っています。私が制作する作品は、感覚的なイメージを表現していますので、そこに静かな情景を感じ取ってもらえたら大変うれしく思います。

Working with urushi lacquer feels like engaging with something alive. Since lacquer is a tree sap, its character changes depending on where and when it is harvested, as well as how it is refined. I carefully study the nature of each batch of lacquer and create my works accordingly. Almost as if possessed, I devote myself each day to the pursuit of beautiful forms. By repeatedly polishing the lacquer undercoat with whetstones, I can achieve refined, elegant curves. In expressing the forms I envision, my temperament seems well aligned with the nature of urushi. I repeat the process of polishing, applying undercoats, and allowing them to dry, gradually advancing each stage. Though refining the precision of these graceful curved surfaces requires tremendous effort, the joy I feel upon completion far outweighs the hardship. My works express intuitive images, and I would be deeply pleased if those who experience my work could sense a quiet landscape within it.
